NO to the transformation of the Schipdonkkanaal! NO to the Seine-Schelde West project!

Nederlands Francais Deutsch

Depreciation of the unique atmosphere and the historical scenery of Damme and Oostkerke. Hundreds of expropriations. Severe damage inflicted upon tourism and the hotel & restaurant sector. Splitting of life communities. Salinification of the wide surroundings. These are just a few of the consequences that await 'Le Plat Pays' between Bruges and Ghent in case the Port Authority of Zeebrugge (MBZ) has its way. They aim at transforming the picturesque Schipdonkkanaal - famous for its magnificent lines of trees - into an industrial canal for push-tow navigation for containers.

't Groot Gedelf supports the economical development and the growth of employment in the port of Zeebrugge, but strongly opposes this project.

The logistic disclosure of the port of Zeebrugge can entirely be achieved by alternative means such as rail, coastal navigation and short sea shipping, all far more economic and ecological than the Seine-Schelde West project. In addition, these alternatives are far sooner operational and offer the best guarantee for employment and ecological logistics.

Although most articles on our website are in Dutch, much is to explore for English speakers as well. E.g. you may browse our photo galleries (referred to as 'Beeldmateriaal') and enjoy the superb scenery of the Schipdonkkanaal.

But above all: please support our action and sign the online petition.

To obtain further information, please contact us at: info@tgrootgedelf.be. We will reply in English.

Thank you very much for your visit - 't Groot Gedelf

't Groot Gedelf was founded in Damme on October 1, 2007. It is the overall non-profit organization of all action committees opposing the industrialization of the Schipdonkkanaal. Our action is primarily based on thorough project knowledge and a sound ecological and economical vision. We are supported by eminent people from the world of academics and business.

So far almost 50.000 people have signed our petition.

On June 10 2008 't Groot Gedelf was heard in the 'Commissie Openbare Werken, Mobiliteit en Energie' of the Flemish Parliament.
